Chelsea
Cowan
Chelsea Cowan is an international Vocal & Performance Coach, performer, and educator with more than 25 years of experience in the arts. She is the founder of SingingWithChelsea Vocal Studio and is proud to coach with Wolf Studios, working with professional and developing artists across Broadway, recording, touring, musical theatre, and contemporary music.
Known for blending functional vocal technique with artistry and performance, Chelsea works with singers to build voices that are strong, versatile, expressive, and reliable under the demands of real-world performance. Her coaching extends between Salt Lake City, New York City, and worldwide online, allowing her to work with artists across the country and internationally.
Chelsea began her intensive training in music, dance, and voice at the age of eight and later pursued studies in Musical Theatre and Vocal Performance at Utah State University and the University of Utah. She continued her professional development and teacher training through the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA), where she earned certification as a Vocal Instructor with advanced training in functional voice technique and vocal pedagogy.
COACHING WITH WOLF STUDIOS
Chelsea is proud to be part of the coaching team at Wolf Studios, collaborating with an industry-focused community dedicated to helping artists develop the technical, artistic, and professional skills required for a sustainable career.
Through Wolf Studios, Chelsea works with singers through private vocal and performance coaching, group classes, masterclasses, artist development, and performance opportunities, while contributing her expertise in functional voice training and vocal pedagogy to the broader Wolf community.
Her work with Wolf has expanded her coaching presence in New York City and created opportunities to work alongside artists and industry professionals across Broadway, recording, touring, and contemporary music.
Throughout her career, Chelsea has trained under world-class vocal mentors, shaping a teaching approach that brings together functional vocal technique, artistic development, and emotional connection. Her extensive background in both solo and ensemble performance—including her time as a soprano with the internationally acclaimed Salt Lake Vocal Artists, performing both nationally and internationally—gives her a deep understanding of the technical and artistic demands placed on singers across genres.
As both a coach and an active vocalist, Chelsea brings an artist’s perspective to her teaching. She believes singers should never be confined to a single sound, style, or definition of what their voice is “supposed” to be. Instead, her work helps artists develop the technical versatility to make intentional stylistic choices while preserving the individuality that makes their voice their own.
Through her in-person and online coaching, Chelsea has worked with singers from more than a dozen countries, from developing vocalists to Broadway performers, recording artists, touring professionals, and fellow vocal coaches. Her training is highly individualized, helping each singer build the strength, coordination, range, stamina, and control required for their specific voice, repertoire, and professional demands.
At the center of Chelsea’s philosophy is a simple belief:
“We master technique so the body does not prevent the soul from expressing itself.”
For Chelsea, technique is never the end goal. It is the foundation that allows an artist to communicate freely, authentically, and consistently. Her coaching bridges vocal function with creative expression, helping singers build a voice they can trust so that when it is time to perform, technique supports the artistry rather than getting in its way.
