Getting started.
How do I get started?
New clients begin with an Initial Vocal Assessment. We’ll explore your voice, discuss your goals, and determine the best direction for your training.
Where do lessons take place? Can I study online?
Private coaching is available at SingingWithChelsea Vocal Studio, 345 East 4500 South, Suite 200, Murray, Utah 84107, or online worldwide. Select New York City coaching dates are available by inquiry.
What lesson lengths and training options are available?
Private sessions include 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute options. Lesson packages and group classes are also available. View the booking page for current options, pricing, and availability.
How often should I take lessons?
For many singers, weekly lessons provide an effective balance between guided training and independent practice. Singers preparing for a recording session, audition, production, concert, or tour may benefit from more frequent coaching for a period of time. Experienced singers may choose less frequent sessions for continued development, troubleshooting, repertoire work, or vocal maintenance.
There is no single schedule that is right for every singer. Training frequency should reflect your experience, goals, professional demands, practice schedule, and what your voice currently needs.
Vocal training.
Can I book just one lesson to prepare for my musical theater audition? What about for a recording session or concert?
Yes, you’re welcome to book casual prep lessons as needed. There is no commitment to book regular lessons, unless you want to. However, keep in mind there are no “Magic tricks” when training the voice. More personal preparation is required for tune-up lessons since we won’t be able to spend time learning or picking your repertoire. Our goal will be to balance your voice and give you the tools for success while singing your songs or going on tour. Performance coaching and style coaching will also be provided contingent upon time and how much personal preparation was done before our session.
What style of singing do you teach?
I don’t teach one specific musical style or genre of singing, but my clientele reflects almost every style including Rock, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Gospel, Musical Theater, RnB, and Country. I focus on teaching good vocal technique so that you have more choices to sing whatever you want to sing, just better. Upon request I can offer some stylistic coaching or refer you to a style coach to work with along with our sessions.
Can you help me with my speaking voice?
Yes, I have worked with actors (both on stage and voice-over), news anchors, lawyers, teachers, and Public Relations officials.. I still work vocal technique with them, but in application we use their speaking voice instead of songs.
What is IVA?
Chelsea is a Certified Instructor for the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA), an organization that offers both exceptional vocal instruction for singers and a certification program for professional singing instructors worldwide. All IVA teachers must complete specific educational requirements and undergo rigorous testing every year in order to maintain their certification, so you know I am teaching the most current and cutting-edge technique out there- technique to train the best, because it is the best!
The IVA technique trains singers and teachers of singing about how to use their voices to their full potential in the healthiest and most efficient way.
Educate and produce the finest voice instructors in the world by developing, promoting, and maintaining the highest standards for the teaching of singing.
Raise public awareness of and knowledge about balanced singing
This method is based on 17th and 18th Century principles of singing combined with the latest scientific research and cutting-edge techniques. All styles from gospel or country, rock or musical theatre, students taught under this method discover the following in their singing:
· How to sing in a free and natural manner
· smooth range with no breaks or sudden changes in quality
· access to all dynamics
· tonal clarity and flexibility where all words are easily pronounced and understood

Do you focus on breathing techniques?
We will look at breathing only as necessary. Correct breathing is a result of good technique, as is tone and resonance. We won’t fix your breathing habits or develop breath unless I notice poor posture or tension. While correct breathing does play an important role in producing good tone, the importance of breathing by itself has been overemphasized by voice teachers over too many years. While singing isn’t exactly like speaking, when you achieve vocal balance, singing becomes as comfortable as speaking, and everything else-including proper breath-happens automatically.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled session.
Sessions canceled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged in full or deducted from an existing lesson package. No refunds or credits will be issued for late cancellations or no-shows.
In the case of a true illness or emergency, please contact Chelsea as soon as possible. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis but are not guaranteed.
What happens if Chelsea cancels a session?
If Chelsea needs to cancel a scheduled session, you will be given the option to reschedule at a mutually available time, receive a lesson credit, or receive a refund for the canceled session.
Are lesson packages refundable? When do they expire?
Lesson packages are available in sets of 4 or 10 lessons. Package sessions are scheduled according to availability and are non-refundable once purchased.
- 4-lesson packages expire three (3) months from the original purchase date.
- 10-lesson packages expire six (6) months from the original purchase date.
All lessons must be scheduled and completed before the applicable package expiration date. Unused sessions remaining after the expiration date will be forfeited unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
Packages are purchased for the individual client and may not be transferred or shared without prior approval. Unused package sessions are non-refundable and may not be credited due to missed appointments, scheduling conflicts, failure to provide the required cancellation notice, or expiration of the package.
When is payment due?
Single sessions must be paid in full at least 48 hours before the scheduled lesson. Unpaid sessions may be canceled and the appointment time released.
Lesson packages must be purchased in full prior to using package sessions.
What if I arrive late or have technical difficulties online?
Sessions begin and end at the scheduled time. Late arrivals are welcome to use the remaining portion of their scheduled lesson, but the session cannot be extended beyond the original end time.
Online clients are responsible for having a reliable internet connection, functional audio/video equipment, and an appropriate space for the lesson. Technical difficulties on the client’s end do not automatically qualify a session for a refund or credit. If a significant technical issue occurs on Chelsea’s end, the affected time will be rescheduled or credited as appropriate.
Chelsea’s approach
Learn
by doing.
I want to help you succeed in singing WHAT you want, WHEN you want, and HOW you want. So you can be the most expressive and marketable singer you want to be. By working with me, you will develop the tools to trust your voice and sing with confidence. For some it does take more work than others, but anyone can develop the skills to sing better. I recognize that every student learns in their own way, on their own timeline. This is why I work with each singer using a “cause and effect” approach to help them find their unique sound. I’ve discovered singers learn best by DOING. Instead of using imagery or placement, I invite my singers to actively participate in their own learning so they remember the sensations when they discover correct balance and comfortable singing.
